writing workshops

Working with other people in a writing workshop is exciting and invigorating. You can bounce ideas off each other, build writing skills together and (only if you want to!) share your work with pride.

I’ve worked with groups of friends, community groups, and groups drawn together by an interest in writing. I’m happy to work with groups of up to 15 people. For groups of more than 6, there may be a venue charge as well.

In these writing workshops the focus is on fun. You’ll do some writing together, and some individually:

  • We’ll work with starters I provide.

  • We’ll talk about what to add, and what to take away, to make your writing more powerful.

  • You’ll leave with a piece of writing you’re proud of, some more starters, and some editing tips.

Writing Workshops

Introductory writing workshops

Three two-hour workshops, in one of the following genres:

  • Memoir

  • Creative Writing (Prose and/or Poetry)

  • Bequest

For each genre, the course will:

  • Give you writing tips and techniques in the genre.

  • Help you find and develop your voice.

  • Help you write about people, places and events in a vivid and compelling way.

Advanced writing workshops

The Advanced writing workshops are for those who have completed one of the introductory workshops and want more.

Each course is made up of three two-hour workshops.

These courses are tailored to participants and the genre of writing they want to explore, but in each, you’ll:

  • Build on skills you learnt in the introductory course.

  • Develop your personal writing style further.

  • Explore how figurative language, sound and form work in your genre.

  • Learn more about editing for purpose and audience.
